No. Not all the broadband providers offer support for Apple Mac. You need to carefully look up at the broadband provider's website, and call the support center if necessary. Ask them if their broadband provide technical support for Apple computers, as some broadband need manually configured if customer uses Apple computer.
How do I switch from another broadband provider?
If you're out of contract with your existing broadband provider you can ask for your MAC code. If you're still in a contract you might be asked to pay for a charge or pay for the rest of your contract and get your MAC code. If you are going to apply a new broadband online, just enter the code when you join online and your broadband connection will be switched to your new broadband provider in a few working days. You can see our broadband switch guide .
Can I use my old ADSL modem for my new broadband?
The policy of each broadband ISP varies. So, you'd best to look up the information on the web site of provider who you are switching to or call their customer service. There is a technical standard that the provider's product complies. For example, BT Total Broadband products comply with the ADSL standard ITU-T G.992.1 (G.DMT). So any equipment that you want to use with the broadband service should also comply with this specification.
How do I pay for broadband service?
To use the ADSL broadband from most of the broadband providers, customers must have a BT telephone line. So, besides the monthly charge for the broadband, you still have to pay for the BT landline rental monthly. Some providers offer broadband packages which contain the line rental. Usually there will be information telling you that the line rental is included on the web page of these broadband packages. If you are not using BT broadband, some broadband provider charge you the line rental instead of BT, and then they pay the line rental fee to BT for you. Broadband fee is usually charged monthly, in advance. The easiest way to pay for monthly bill is by Direct Debit. And paying by D/D to some providers like BT even save you money.
Why do most the contracts of the broadband service last for at least 12 months?
Broadband providers do spend a lot for a new customer, for example, setting up a new network entry for a new user, giving out some network hardware and software for free, and keeping and managing the connection of the user. All these cost money and most of money is spent at initial stage. So the provider needs a long term contract to cover these initial costs through a long contract term. However, some providers now provide no contract deals (actually one month contract deals). You can cancel at any time and the broadband will be disconnected at the end of the contract month. But such deals usually require a connection fee and a modem cost. You can see these no contract broadband providers and deals here.
Can I switch if I am in contract with my current provider?
You must comply with your current service provider's terms and conditions. For most providers, you can cancel when you are still in a contract, but you have to pay a large amount of cancellation fee, or you have to pay for the remaining term of the broadband contract. You can contact your service provider to find out more about cancellation a broadband contract.
What happens if I want to cancel existing broadband service before the end of the contract?
For most broadband providers, if you cancel the service within the broadband contract time, you will be charged a certain amount of money or you may have to pay for the rest of the minimum period of your broadband contract.
What should I do if I move to another address before the end of the contract?
If you moved to a new place and would like to transfer your broadband service to your new address, any remaining term on your contract will be transferred to your new address. If you move but do not wish to install broadband or install the previous broadband at the new place. This actually means you are trying to end the contract before its ending date. You will be charged or have to pay for the term remaining on the contract. However, if your existing broadband service is not available at your new home, you may not need to pay for the rest of your broadband contract. But the policy may vary from provider to provider. Do check it before you move.
I have placed my order for several days but haven’t got any reply, what can I do?
First, you can go to the website of the provider you have selected to see if it has tracking service. If it does have, enter the number it requires and follow the instructions to see what’s going on about your order. If it doesn’t have, call the service number of the provider and ask them to check the progress for you.
  What's a MAC code?
MAC code is short for Migration Authority Code. It's a code that lets you switch from one broadband provider to another without losing connection. You need your MAC code from your current broadband Internet Service Provider (ISP) in order to transfer your broadband service from one broadband provider to another.
Can I make voice and video talk via broadband?
Yes. The broadband can provide enough transmission speed for voice calls and video dialogues. With some software like MSN Messenger or Skype, you can talk with anyone else on the Internet, even at the other side of the earth. You can even make calls to any landline telephone or mobile phone using software like Skype in a very cheap rate. With the speed of broadband, the voice quality is quite good, almost as clear as making calls with telephone.
Does the broadband provider offer something to protect me and my computer online?
Some providers give some online protection software for free once a customer buys a broadband deal. Today, online threats mainly include viruses, hackers, intrusion, online fraud and identity theft. To each type of threats, there is software to protect you and your computer. Some broadband providers will send you anti-virus software and firewall which can protect you from the major threats from virus and hacker attack. Some broadband providers like BT offer a set of online security features to protect you against all these threats. Some providers are quite flexible in providing Internet protection service. Some broadband basic options or cheap deals may don't get the protection features. Higher level may get more comprehensive security protection solution.
