We just want unlimited broadband! Why do broadband providers such as BT Broadband, AOL Broadband and Pipex Broadband etc have a capped service that restricts us to between 3 and 30 gigabytes a month? Personally, I've gone with Tiscali Broadband for the time being, not because they offer a better service than anyone else, but because they do not impose a cap on the amount of data I can download.
It's like a return to the bad old days of metered access with a dialup Internet connection and it really doesn't make any sense. Surely they can see that as the speed of broadband gradually increases to 8Mbps even 24Mbps, so will the amount of data that people download.
There are almost unlimited numbers of movies, software, games and music out there all just a few mouse clicks away and it seems to me that the allowance of even 10 gigabytes a month just isn't enough. Let's do some calculation, 10Gb usage for a month is only 330Mb each day on average. 330Mb is only 1/2 data of a normal CD or 1/12 of a normal DVD.
And if you use over the limit, you will be charged extra money for your usage over the limit. So if you make lots of downloading and uploading, unlimited usage can save you a lot!
Yes, unlimited broadband usage is fantastic! But I'm not persuading everyone to apply for a unlimited broadband. You need to think you do most online before you decide which offer to choose. If what you do most is browsing web pages, 4Gb is almost enough. 10Gb monthly usage is far than enough. You may use up 10Gb if you browse common web pages for 16 hours a day, 30 days a month.
Now, more and more broadband ISPs are providing broadband products with unlimited usage, leading to the price going down.
Cheaper unlimited broadband is also available: Tiscali broadband offer an unlimited broadband with £7.99 a month for the first 3 months, £12.99 thereafter. However, the speed is only 1Mbps.
